“I just said, ‘You’re looking in great shape’”: Prasidh Krishna on exchange with Joe Root

On the second day of the Oval Test, a heated exchange took place between Prasidh Krishna and Joe Root. Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, Prasidh Krishna clarified that he had only complimented Root on his fitness, but the England batter misinterpreted it as abuse.
“I don’t know why Rooty reacted that way. I just said, ‘You’re looking in great shape,’ and suddenly it turned into a lot of abuse. Later, I went and spoke to him. He said he thought I had abused him. I told him that wasn’t the case, and he admitted, ‘I just wanted to fire myself up as well, so I had to pump myself up,’”Prasidh Krishna revealed.
Reflecting on the incident, the Indian pacer added, “That’s what I love about the sport and how I’ve always played it. To see everyone, especially a legend like him, putting everything on the line and fighting for the team—that’s something everyone can learn from.”
Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj was named Player of the Match after claiming nine wickets. Despite centuries from Joe Root and Harry Brook in the second innings, England fell short as India secured their narrowest-ever Test victory. Prasidh Krishna himself enjoyed a strong series, finishing with 14 wickets in three matches at an average of 37.07.
