Cricket Australia (CA) and the Australian Cricketers’ Association (ACA) finalized a five-year memorandum of understanding (MOU) valued at $634 million on Monday, following a largely smooth negotiation process. One of the standout aspects of the agreement is the substantial pay increase for female cricketers, who will see their earnings rise by nearly 66%, totaling $133 million over the duration of the deal.
The WBBL salary cap will rise to $732,000 annually, aiming to remain competitive with England’s Women’s Hundred, India’s WPL, and other franchise leagues. Additionally, Cricket Australia (CA) will expand the women’s national contract list from 15 to 18 players, along with a 25% pay increase. The top earners are projected to make around $800,000 across all contracts.
“Cricket now clearly offers the best earning potential of any team sport for elite female athletes,” CA CEO Nick Hockley said in a statement. I’m particularly pleased that this MOU marks another significant milestone in the growth of women’s cricket. The increased remuneration reflects the value of the Australian women’s team and the WBBL, who serve as inspirational role models and are driving the rapid rise in female participation.
