Ruturaj Gaikwad was initially set to feature in both the County Championship and the One-Day Cup for Yorkshire. However, the Indian batter has now withdrawn from the stint due to personal reasons, marking a significant change in plans. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain had recently signed a deal with the English county side, but just days before his expected debut, he pulled out.
His sudden withdrawal has left Yorkshire in a difficult position, as they will now have to find a replacement at short notice.
Ruturaj Gaikwad was scheduled to play the remaining County Championship matches and make his debut in the One-Day Cup, with his first appearance planned against reigning champions Surrey.
Yorkshire Coach Disappointed as Ruturaj Gaikwad Pulls Out of County Championship

Yorkshire head coach Anthony McGrath has expressed his disappointment over Indian batter Ruturaj Gaikwad’s unexpected withdrawal from the ongoing County Championship season. The exact reason for Gaikwad’s decision remains unclear, with McGrath confirming that it was due to personal reasons.
“Unfortunately, Ruturaj Gaikwad not coming now for personal reasons,” McGrath stated. “We won’t have him for Scarborough or the rest of the season, which is disappointing. I can’t reveal any details about the reasons, but we hope everything is fine with him. We literally just found out.”
With Ruturaj Gaikwad pulling out at the last minute, Yorkshire are scrambling to find a replacement. McGrath admitted that time is running out but assured that efforts are being made behind the scenes.
“We’re working behind the scenes on what we can do,” he said. “But with only two or three days to go, we’re under a lot of time pressure. I can’t give any further updates right now.”
Gaikwad has not seen much game time recently. After featuring in a few matches for Chennai Super Kings during IPL 2025, he was sidelined due to an elbow injury. Although later named in the India A squad for the four-day games in England, he didn’t make the playing XI in any of the matches.
