The IPL celebrates young talent annually with this award, highlighting standout performers who shine alongside seasoned players in the league. Guided by the mantra “Where Talent Meets Opportunity,” the IPL has been instrumental in producing cricketing stars like Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja, showcasing the potential of emerging players over the years.
IPL Emerging Player Award 2024 Criteria
The IPL Emerging Player Award recognizes a young player who has shown consistent performance throughout the season and has the potential to excel in international cricket. To be eligible for the award, a player must meet the following criteria:
- Born on or after 1 April 1998.
- Played 5 or fewer Test matches or less than 20 ODIs.
- Played 25 or fewer IPL matches at the start of the season.
- Never won the Emerging Player Award before.
The winner is chosen through a combination of a public vote on the official IPL website and the selection of television commentators.
IPL Emerging Player Award Winners List From 2008 to 2024
The IPL Emerging Player Award has undergone several name changes over the years. In 2008, it was called the “Best Under-19 Player” award, then the “Best Under-23 Player” in 2009, followed by “Under-23 Success of the Tournament” in 2010. From 2011 to 2012, it was known as the “Rising Star of the Year,” and in 2013, it was called the “Best Young Player of the Season.” Since 2014, the award has been consistently named the Emerging Player of the Year.
Notably, Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman is the only overseas player to win this prestigious award, claiming it in the 2016 season while playing for Hyderabad.
