27 Jersey Number In Cricket

A cricket player’s jersey number is their form of identification in the game. You may even call it a tag. Every player has an inscription of this significant number alongside their surname at the back of their jersey. It is easier to remember the jersey number of a cricketer than their actual name.

Jermaine Blackwood

Jermaine Blackwood is a Jamaican cricketer. He made his Test cricket debut for the West Indies against New Zealand in June 2014. He made his One Day International debut for the West Indies against Sri Lanka on 4 November 2015.

Blackwood scored his maiden Test century in the first Test of England’s 2015 tour, however, England went on to win the match. Blackwood then steered his team to victory in the third Test at Barbados hitting 53 not out with the winning runs coming off the bowling of Moeen Ali. The West Indies won by 5 wickets to draw the series 1–1.

In September 2019, in the second innings of the second Test against India, Blackwood replaced Darren Bravo as a concussion substitute in the West Indies’ squad.

In October 2019, he was named in Jamaica’s squad for the 2019–20 Regional Super50 tournament. In March 2020, in round eight of the 2019–20 West Indies Championship, Blackwood scored his maiden double century in first-class cricket, with 248 runs against the Leeward Islands. He was the leading run-scorer in the tournament, with 768 runs in eight matches.

In June 2020, Blackwood was named in the West Indies’ Test squad, for their series against England. The Test series was originally scheduled to start in May 2020, but was moved back to July 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the first Test of the series, at Southampton, Blackwood top-scored with a match winning 95, helping his team to win the match by four wickets.

In November 2020, Blackwood was named in West Indies’s test squad against New Zealand. In the first test against New Zealand, he scored 104 and shared a 155 run stand with Alzarri Joseph, but could not help the West Indies to win the Test.

Rory Burns

Rory Joseph Burns is an English cricketer known as the captain of Surrey in domestic cricket. He made his international debut for the England cricket team in November 2018. He is a left-handed batsman who opens in first-class cricket and occasionally fields as a wicket-keeper. In 2018, he was appointed captain of Surrey in both first-class and List A formats.

Mahela Jayawardene

Denagamage Praboth Mahela de Silva Jayawardene is a former Sri Lankan cricketer who is also known as the consultant coach of Sri Lanka national cricket team. Mahela is one of the most successful captains for Sri Lanka along with Sanath Jayasuriya. During the time of his captaincy, he was known mainly for his tactical acumen for decades and was rewarded for his captaincy instincts.

He made his Test cricket debut in August 1997 and his One Day International (ODI) debut the following season in January 1998. In 2006 along with his team mate Kumar Sangakkara, Jayawardene made one of the highest ever partnerships in first Class cricket, scoring 624 runs for the third wicket in the first test match of Sri Lanka’s home series against South Africa. He appeared in 652 international matches representing Sri Lanka in a career spanning for about 18 years. During his international career, he also formed a healthy relationship and friendship with fellow veteran player Kumar Sangakkara.

Mahela is the first player in the history of Sri Lankan cricket to score over 10,000 Test runs and is also the second Sri Lankan player to score more than 10,000 runs in ODIs after Sanath Jayasuriya. Jayawardene then became the Chairman of Sri Lanka National Sports Council.

Jayawardene’s highest test score, 374 against South Africa, is one of the highest scores by a right-handed batsman in the history of Test cricket. Along with teammate Sangakkara, he has one of the most career partnership runs for the 3rd wicket in Tests, scoring 5890 runs surpassing the 5826 run record of Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar.

Jayawardene was a key member of the team that won the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 and was part of the team that made to the final of 2007 Cricket World Cup, 2011 Cricket World Cup, 2009 ICC World Twenty20 and 2012 ICC World Twenty20.

In 2006, Jayawardene was named by the International Cricket Council as the best International captain of the year and was nominated in 2007 as the best Test cricket player of the year. He is also known for his fielding skills in the inner ring, with a report prepared by Cricinfo in late 2005 showing that since the 1999 Cricket World Cup, he had effected the most run-outs in ODI cricket of any fieldsman, with the fifth highest run-out/match ratio in ODI’s. He is also the first player to have scored a century in a World Cup final in a losing cause.

He also became a board member in several unlisted public limited companies in Sri Lanka. He has been a vocal critic of Sri Lanka Cricket over the years especially after 2015 where Sri Lanka national cricket has suffered the worst decline at international cricket.

In November 2021, he was inducted to the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame. He became only the third Sri Lankan to be inducted to the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame after Muttiah Muralitharan and Kumar Sangakkara.

Ajinkya Rahane

Ajinkya Madhukar Rahane is an Indian international cricketer and former captain of Indian national team in all formats. He plays primarily as a middle-order batsman in the Test format and as a top-order batsman in white-ball forms of the game. He was also the vice-captain of the India national cricket team in Tests until the home series against New Zealand in 2021 after which he was removed. He chose to represent Mumbai in domestic cricket and Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL.

Rahane made his first-class debut in 2007–08 Ranji Trophy season for Mumbai. He made his international debut in T20Is against England at Manchester in August 2011. Rahane made his Test debut in the March 2013 Border–Gavaskar Trophy. His first Test century came at Basin Reserve, Wellington against New Zealand. Under his captaincy, India won the 2020-21 Border–Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. He was awarded a Grade B contract by the BCCI in March 2022.

Prithvi Shaw

Prithvi Pankaj Shaw is an Indian professional cricketer known for playing with Mumbai in domestic cricket and Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. He got retained by Dehli Capitals ahead of the auction of the Tata IPL 2022. He was the captain of the Indian team that won the 2018 Under-19 World Cup. He Is One Of The Best Openers Of India.

A right-handed opening batsman, Shaw made his first international appearance on 4 October 2018 and became one of the youngest Indians to make a Test century and to do so on Test debut.

Shaw made his first-class debut for Mumbai in the semi-finals of the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy on 1 January 2017. He scored a century in the second innings and was man of the match. Shaw earned another distinction by scoring a century in his debut match of the Duleep Trophy and equaled the record held by Sachin Tendulkar who had scored for the first time a century each in his debut matches of Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy. In December 2017, Shaw was named captain of India’s squad for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He led India in the final where they beat Australia by 8 wickets to win their fourth Under-19 World Cup.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) named Shaw as one of the five breakout stars in men’s cricket in 2018. In July 2019, he was suspended by BCCI for doping violation till 15 November 2019. Prithvi Shaw was handed a back-dated 8-month ban for a doping violation on 30 July by the BCCI. Shaw had inadvertently ingested a prohibited substance, which can be commonly found in cough syrups. Shaw’s urine sample collected during a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match on 22 February 2019 in Indore was found to contain Terbutaline. Terbutaline, a specified substance, is prohibited both in and out of competition in the WADA Prohibited List of Substances.
