AUS vs IND: Glenn Maxwell Targets Return for Final Three T20Is Against India

Injured Glenn Maxwell has been left out of Australia’s squad for the first two T20Is against India. The star all-rounder, currently recovering from a wrist fracture, remains hopeful of regaining full fitness in time for the final three matches of the five-game series next month.

Glenn Maxwell sustained the injury on his right wrist after being struck by a powerful shot from Mitchell Owen while bowling in the nets ahead of the T20I series against New Zealand. He was immediately sent home to consult a specialist and underwent surgery to fast-track his recovery.

As a result, Glenn Maxwell will miss the opening two T20Is against India on October 29 and 31. Australia is expected to name the squad for the remaining three matches—scheduled for November 2, 6, and 8—at a later date.

Glenn Maxwell is hopeful of featuring in the last three T20Is of Australia’s upcoming series against India. Speaking to ESPN Cricinfo, the all-rounder revealed that he underwent surgery to speed up his recovery in time for the India tour and the Big Bash League (BBL).

“I think having the surgery last week gives me a little bit more hope of playing some part in that India series, if I can get myself right,” Glenn Maxwell said.

He explained that surgery was the best option to stay in contention for the series. “The only reason I had the surgery was that the options they gave me were to miss that series completely and no surgery, or have surgery and it gives me a slim chance to hopefully play a part. If not, I’ll be ready earlier for the BBL, and it helps me get the rest of my body right,” he added.

The experienced campaigner also shared that he has started mobility exercises to strengthen his wrist after having his cast removed on Wednesday. “I only met with a hand therapist yesterday. He gave me some really basic movements—things that look really boring—but they’ll help strengthen the wrist,” Glenn Maxwell said.

The five-match T20I series against India will be a key part of Australia’s build-up to the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Glenn Maxwell has been in fine form in the shortest format this year, scoring 169 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of 174.22, including one unbeaten fifty.

Meanwhile, Mitchell Marsh will captain Australia in both the T20I and ODI series against India, with regular skipper Pat Cummins sidelined due to injury. The three-match ODI series is scheduled to take place from October 19 to 25.
