Bangladesh Names Squad for ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, Nigar Sultana Joty Appointed Captain

Nigar Sultana Joty has been appointed captain of the Bangladesh Women’s cricket team for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the squad for the tournament, with Nahida Akter named as vice-captain.

The World Cup will start on September 30, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, featuring eight teams: Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand, England, and South Africa.

The tournament opener will see hosts India face Sri Lanka on September 30, while Bangladesh will play their first match against Pakistan on October 2 in Colombo. The final is scheduled for November 2.

Nigar Sultana Joty (Captain), Nahida Akter (Vice-Captain), Farzana Haque, Rubya Haider Jhelik, Sharmin Akter Supta, Sobhana Mostary, Ritu Moni, Shorna Akter, Fahima Khatun, Rabeya Khan, Marufa Akter, Fariha Islam Trisna, Shanjida Akther Maghla, Nishita Akter Nishi, Sumaiya Akter.

Australia Women enter the tournament as the defending champions, having clinched the previous edition in 2022 by defeating England Women in the final.

In contrast, Bangladesh Women struggled in the last World Cup, managing only one victory while losing six of their seven matches. With just two points, they finished seventh out of eight teams on the points table.

The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 will adopt a round-robin format, where each team faces all other teams once, totaling seven matches in the league stage. The top four teams on the points table will then advance to the semi-finals.
