How many days later has Shubman Gill made his return to India’s T20I squad?

Shubman Gill has been appointed India’s vice-captain for the Asia Cup 2025. The announcement was made on Tuesday, August 19, at the BCCI headquarters by chief selector Ajit Agarkar alongside T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav. The biggest highlight of the squad reveal was Gill’s promotion as vice-captain, marking his long-awaited return to the T20I setup.

The 25-year-old makes his comeback to T20 internationals after more than a year. He has not featured in any T20Is this year and also missed the five-match series against England earlier in 2025.

Shubman Gill, however, showcased superb form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Leading Gujarat Titans, he finished as the fourth-highest run-getter of the season with 650 runs in 15 matches. Batting at an outstanding average of 50.0 and a strike rate of 155.87, he registered six half-centuries, with a highest score of an unbeaten 93.

Now, after dominating red-ball cricket, Shubman Gill sets his sights on the Asia Cup 2025, beginning September 9 in the UAE. India have been drawn in Group A alongside Pakistan, UAE, and Oman.
