West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell announced his retirement from international cricket on Wednesday. He will bid farewell to the West Indies jersey during the upcoming five-match T20I series at home against Australia.

Selected on performance merit, Russell—one of the world’s most impactful T20 players—will feature in the first two matches on July 20 and 22 at Sabina Park, Jamaica, his home ground, before ending his international career.

Expressing immense pride, Russell said representing the West Indies has been a highlight of his life. “When I was a kid, I didn’t expect to reach this level, but my love for the sport pushed me to become better. I wanted to leave a mark in the maroon colours and inspire others,” he shared.

He also cherished the chance to play his final games in front of family and friends at home. “I want to finish on a high, showcasing my talent and being a role model for the next generation of Caribbean cricketers,” Russell added.

West Indies Suffers Another Blow as Andre Russell Quits International Cricket

Andre Russell becomes the second high-profile West Indies player to retire recently, following Nicholas Pooran’s announcement just two months ago. With only seven months remaining before the next T20 World Cup in February 2026, hosted by India and Sri Lanka, Russell’s exit is a significant setback for the team.

The 37-year-old has focused exclusively on T20 cricket since 2019, playing 84 matches and winning the T20 World Cup twice—in 2012 and 2016. Additionally, he has represented West Indies in 56 ODIs and one Test.

Russell will be replaced by Matthew Forde for the upcoming Warner Park leg of the series.
