“Got inspired by Shubman Gill…” Vaibhav Suryavanshi reacts after smashing fastest century in Youth ODI

Shubman Gill: Vaibhav Suryavanshi Slams Record-Breaking Century with 10 Sixes and 13 Fours. Fourteen-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi made headlines on Saturday, July 5, 2025, as India U19 clinched a 55-run victory over England U19 in the fourth Youth ODI in Worcester, securing the series in style. Continuing his red-hot form from IPL 2025, Suryavanshi delivered a sensational knock, following up his previous scores of 48, 45, and 86 in the series.

In a record-breaking display, Suryavanshi hammered 143 off just 78 balls, including 10 sixes and 13 boundaries, bringing up the fastest century in Youth ODI history in just 52 balls.

While Hasitha Boyagoda of Sri Lanka still holds the record for the highest individual score in U19 ODIs with 191 against Kenya in 2018, and Ambati Rayudu owns the Indian record with an unbeaten 177 versus England U19 in 2002, Suryavanshi’s blistering ton has now earned its place in the record books for sheer speed and dominance.

“I Didn’t Know About the Record, Took Major Inspiration from Shubman Gill” – Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Shubman Gill

After witnessing Shubman Gill’s brilliant knock live during the Birmingham Test, young cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi said he felt truly inspired. Speaking to the BCCI, Suryavanshi admitted he wasn’t even aware that he had broken the record for the fastest U19 ODI century until his team manager told him.

“I had no idea I’d created a record. It was only after I reached 100 that our team manager, Ankit sir, told me I’d set a new benchmark. I’ll try to score 200 in the next match and aim to play all 50 overs. The more I score, the more it helps the team,” he said.

Suryavanshi added that watching Gill’s determination left a strong impression on him. “I got a lot of inspiration from Shubman Gill. Even after scoring a hundred or double hundred, he kept going and kept pushing the team forward. I had 20 overs left, and I feel I could’ve stretched my innings like Gill. But there was one shot where I couldn’t give my 100%, and that’s when I got out. Otherwise, I would’ve tried to make the innings even longer.”
