The Royal Challengers Bengaluru, captained by Rajat Patidar, finally ended their long-standing title drought by clinching their first-ever Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy earlier this week. They secured a thrilling six-run victory over Punjab Kings in the final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. While days have passed since the triumph, behind-the-scenes moments from the celebration continue to surface online, captivating fans.
One such video capturing hearts shows Patidar breaking the traditional post-final ritual for a special gesture. However, Patidar chose to forgo the spotlight, instead inviting RCB icon Virat Kohli to take on the honour.

Initially hesitant, the 36-year-old eventually obliged after Patidar’s encouragement, delighting the entire RCB squad and fans alike. Virat Kohli the star of the show for RCB

Virat Kohli was the driving force behind Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s success in the IPL 2025 season, amassing 657 runs in 15 innings at an average of 54.75 and a strike rate of 144.71. He recorded eight half-centuries, each contributing to a winning cause for his team. After an 18-year wait, Kohli finally lifted the IPL trophy, and the emotional weight of the moment was clear as he broke down in tears following RCB’s narrow six-run win over Punjab Kings in the final. His teammates rushed to embrace him after the last ball, bowled by Josh Hazlewood, sealing a historic victory.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Kohli reflected on the journey: “This win is as much for the fans as it is for the team. It has been 18 long years. I have given this team my youth, my prime, and my experience, and I have tried to win this every season that I have come. I have given everything I have, and to finally have this moment come, it is an unbelievable feeling.”
Overcome with emotion, he added, “I never thought this day would come. I was overcome with emotions as soon as the last ball was bowled. This means so much to me. I have given each and every ounce of energy to this team, and to finally win an IPL is an amazing feeling.”
In the aftermath, RCB’s marketing and revenue head, Nikhil Sosale, was arrested along with three members of the event management company, DNA. Additionally, the secretary and treasurer of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) resigned from their posts, as investigations into the tragedy continue.
