Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 7. The right-handed batter ended his Test career after representing India for 11 years, from 2013 to 2024. Following his retirement, numerous former and current cricketers extended their congratulations to him for a successful Test career.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also congratulated the former Test captain. Sharma, who captained the Indian Test team since February 2022, will continue to lead the team in ODIs. Having retired from T20I cricket last year, he will now only represent India in ODIs.
The 38-year-old played 67 Tests for India, amassing 4,301 runs in 116 innings at an average of 40.58. His Test career includes 18 half-centuries and 12 centuries, with a highest score of 212. As captain, Sharma led India in 24 Tests, securing 12 wins, suffering nine defeats, and drawing three matches.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis extended a special gesture to Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma by personally meeting him at his official residence, Varsha. During the meeting, Fadnavis congratulated Rohit Sharma on his successful Test career and honored him with a floral garland.
Sharing photos of the meeting on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, CM Fadnavis wrote, “It was great to welcome, meet, and interact with Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma at my official residence Varsha. I extended my best wishes to him on his retirement from Test cricket and for continued success in the next chapter of his journey!”
Rohit Sharma: Last month, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) honored Sharma by naming a stand at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium after him. Sharma has been instrumental in leading the Indian cricket team to victory in two ICC trophies over the past year.
Currently, the 38-year-old is focused on the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, which will resume on May 17. Representing Mumbai Indians (MI) as an opener, Rohit Sharma has scored 300 runs in 11 matches with an impressive strike rate of 152.28, including three half-centuries. MI currently holds the fourth position on the IPL 2025 points table.
