BCCI suspends IPL 2025 amidst growing tensions between India and Pakistan

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been temporarily suspended following the disruption of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) vs. Delhi Capitals (DC) match in Dharamsala on Thursday. This decision comes after a high-level meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) leadership, prompted by rising border tensions between India and Pakistan.

The match at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium was halted midway, with PBKS at 10.1 overs when the floodlights unexpectedly went out. Initially attributed to a technical issue, the situation escalated as the stadium was evacuated, and players, along with support staff, were swiftly moved out.

BCCI considered various options, including a possible change of venue, before opting for the suspension. Although all IPL franchises and stakeholders have been notified, an official public statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is still awaited.

IPL 2025 Suspended: BCCI Prioritizes Player Safety Amid Uncertainty

BCCI suspends IPL 2025 amidst growing tensions between India and Pakistan

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the ongoing IPL 2025 season following an emergency meeting held immediately after the PBKS vs DC match in Dharamsala was abandoned. The meeting was called to assess the safety concerns of foreign players participating in the tournament.

“We are closely monitoring the situation, consulting with the government, and will make a final decision tomorrow. The situation is evolving daily. Our primary focus is the safety of all players, fans, and stakeholders,” stated Rajeev Shukla, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president, in a conversation with The Indian Express.

Although an official announcement is yet to be released, sources have confirmed that the BCCI, after discussions with the Indian government, has opted to put the remainder of IPL 2025 on hold. The board believes that continuing the tournament at this time would pose unnecessary risks to the players’ well-being.

“We are uncertain about what lies ahead. Given the prevailing uncertainty, it is difficult to predict the next steps. For now, we can only wait and observe the situation,” Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sources further explained to The Indian Express.

Before the suspension, IPL 2025 had completed 58 matches. The remaining 12 group stage games were scheduled to take place in Lucknow (2), Hyderabad, Ahmedabad (3), Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru (2), Mumbai, and Jaipur, with the playoffs originally planned for Hyderabad and Kolkata.
