New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips, currently with the Gujarat Titans (GT), has been ruled out of the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to a groin injury. In an official statement, GT confirmed that Phillips has returned to New Zealand for treatment and will miss the rest of the season.

Phillips played a crucial role for New Zealand during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where the team finished as runners-up to India. He was signed by GT at the IPL 2025 mega-auction for his base price of ₹2 crore. However, he has yet to feature in a match for the Titans this season.
The injury occurred on April 6, during GT’s clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Phillips, who had come on as a substitute fielder, picked up the groin strain while attempting a throw from the point region in the final over of the powerplay.
Glenn Phillips Heads Home to New Zealand After Groin Injury
Gujarat Titans batter Glenn Phillips has flown back to New Zealand after suffering a groin injury during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 6. The incident occurred when the 28-year-old collapsed in visible pain on the field, prompting the team’s physiotherapist to rush to his aid. After a lengthy delay, a teammate helped Phillips off the field for further medical evaluation.
In an official statement, Gujarat Titans said: “Glenn Phillips has returned to New Zealand following a groin injury he sustained during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 6. Gujarat Titans wish Glenn a speedy recovery.
Phillips’ injury marks the second overseas departure for the Titans this season. South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada had earlier flown back home due to a personal emergency, with no official word on his return. The franchise is yet to announce replacements for either player.
As a result, GT now have just five overseas players in their squad: Jos Buttler, Sherfane Rutherford, Rashid Khan, Gerald Coetzee, and Karim Janat.
Despite these setbacks, Gujarat Titans are enjoying a strong campaign in IPL 2025. With eight points from five matches, they currently top the standings. After an opening loss to Punjab Kings, the Titans bounced back with consecutive wins over Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals.
