IPL 2025: Why RCB Captain Rajat Patidar Was Fined After Victory Over MI

This win marked a historic moment for RCB, as it was their first triumph over MI in Mumbai since the 2015 edition of the IPL. Under Patidar’s captaincy, RCB secured their third win of the 2025 season out of four matches played so far. Their only loss came at home against the Gujarat Titans at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium last week.

Despite the celebratory win at the Wankhede Stadium on April 7, Patidar faced disciplinary action from the IPL and BCCI. He was fined INR 12 lakhs for maintaining a slow over-rate during the match, in violation of the IPL Code of Conduct.

Rajat Patidar Shines with Player of the Match Performance

Rajat Patidar delivered a blistering knock, smashing five boundaries and four sixes en route to a rapid 64 off just 32 balls. His explosive innings earned him the Player of the Match award, but Patidar was quick to credit Krunal Pandya for keeping his cool during the tense final over. The win marked Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) first victory at the Wankhede Stadium in over a decade—a thrilling triumph over the Mumbai Indians.

Patidar has been instrumental for RCB this season, amassing 161 runs in just four innings—second only to Virat Kohli’s 164. Leading the side in his debut season as captain, he’s brought a bold and aggressive edge to RCB’s batting lineup, playing a pivotal role in their strong start to the IPL 2025 campaign.

Rajat Patidar Fined for Slow Over-Rate Offense

Despite the on-field heroics, Patidar faced disciplinary action for a slow over-rate. The IPL announced that he was fined INR 12 lakhs for RCB’s first such offense of the season, as per Article 2.2 of the league’s Code of Conduct.

“Royal Challengers Bengaluru Captain Rajat Patidar has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 21 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. As this was his team’s first offense of the season under Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offenses, Patidar was fined INR 12 lakhs,” read the official IPL statement.

He joins the list of other IPL 2025 captains penalized for similar offenses, including Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants), Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians), and Riyan Parag (Rajasthan Royals).
