The Big Bash League (BBL), launched by Cricket Australia (CA) in 2011, stands as one of the most prestigious T20 franchise leagues globally. Over the years, it has evolved into a marquee competition, drawing top cricketing talents from around the world.
The Perth Scorchers have emerged as the most successful team in BBL history, clinching five championships in the league’s 14-year journey.
The tournament has been graced by legendary batsmen such as Matthew Hayden, Ricky Ponting, Chris Gayle, and Brendon McCullum, who have delivered unforgettable T20 performances, leaving fans thrilled with their exploits.
10. Luke Wright – 2 Centuries
Former England all-rounder Luke Wright showcased his class in the BBL, scoring two centuries while representing the Melbourne Stars from 2011 to 2018. Amassing 1,479 runs at an average of 29, Wright was a dependable performer.
Both of his centuries came in away games: the first against Hobart Hurricanes in 2012 and the second against Melbourne Renegades in 2016.
9. Craig Simmons – 2 Centuries
Craig Simmons was one of the early stars of the BBL. Representing Adelaide Strikers and Perth Scorchers, the New South Wales batter played 20 matches and scored 501 runs, including two explosive centuries during the 2013/14 season.
His first century was a stunning display at the W.A.C.A. against Adelaide Strikers, followed by another memorable knock in Sydney against the Sixers.
8. Matthew Short – 2 Centuries
Victorian all-rounder Matthew Short is a rising star of the BBL. Starting his career in 2014 as a middle-order batter, he transitioned into a dynamic opener. He has played for Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades and is currently leading the Strikers.
Short’s two centuries came in quick succession: the first in 2023 against Hobart Hurricanes and the second in 2024 against Brisbane Heat.
7. D’Arcy Short – 2 Centuries
Once hailed as David Warner’s successor, D’Arcy Short has been a dominant force in the BBL. Representing Hobart Hurricanes and Adelaide Strikers, Short hit two centuries, both for Hobart.
He announced himself with an unbeaten 122 against Brisbane Heat in 2018 and followed it up with a century against Perth Scorchers in 2020.
6. Glenn Maxwell – 2 Centuries
Glenn Maxwell, one of the most prolific T20 players, has delivered countless match-winning performances in the BBL. Playing for Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Stars, Maxwell has over 3,000 runs at a strike rate of 150+.
Despite his explosive reputation, Maxwell’s first BBL century (103) came in 2021 against Sydney Sixers, followed by a record-breaking 154-run knock against Hobart Hurricanes in 2022.
5. Usman Khawaja – 2 Centuries
Renowned for his test cricket exploits, Usman Khawaja has also made his mark in the BBL. Representing Sydney Thunder, Khawaja’s elegant batting produced two centuries.
His first ton (109) came against Melbourne Stars in 2015, while his unbeaten 104 against Adelaide Strikers in 2016 remains a highlight of his T20 career.
4. Aaron Finch – 2 Centuries
Former Australia captain Aaron Finch is among the greatest white-ball openers of his era. In his 107 matches for Melbourne Renegades, Finch registered two BBL centuries.
The first came in 2012 against Melbourne Stars, and the second, a scintillating 109-run knock, was scored in 2020 against Sydney Sixers.
3. Alex Carey – 2 Centuries
Carey’s first came against Hobart Hurricanes in 2018, and his second, a career-best 101, was scored against Brisbane Heat in 2021.
2. Steve Smith – 3 Centuries
Steve Smith has evolved from a leg-spinner to one of the most destructive openers in T20 cricket. Representing Sydney Sixers, Smith has hit three centuries in the BBL.
Two of these came in 2023 against Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Thunder, while his most recent century (121) was a match-winning effort against Perth Scorchers in 2025.
1. Ben McDermott – 3 Centuries
Ben McDermott, son of Australian bowling great Craig McDermott, has carved out his own legacy in the BBL. With three centuries to his name, McDermott has been a consistent performer for Brisbane Heat, Hobart Hurricanes, and Melbourne Renegades.
His first ton came in 2017 against Melbourne Renegades. In the 2021/22 season, he delivered two more outstanding centuries, both against Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades.
