Major setback for Australia! Adam Zampa and Josh Inglis ruled out of first ODI against India; replacements announced

Adam Zampa and Josh Inglis are set to feature later in the ODI series against India, but both will miss the opening match. The Australian team has suffered a setback ahead of the first ODI against India, scheduled for 19th October in Perth. Key players Adam Zampa and Josh Inglis have been ruled out of the series opener. Adam Zampa will miss the game due to paternity reasons, while Inglis is still recovering from a calf strain.

Inglis’ absence has paved the way for Josh Philippe, who has been drafted into the squad and will take over the wicketkeeping duties — marking his maiden appearance as a keeper in ODIs.

According to reports from ESPNCricinfo, Inglis will also be unavailable for the second ODI. However, Australia will have backup in Alex Carey, who is currently featuring in a Sheffield Shield match as part of his Ashes preparation. Carey will miss the first game but is expected to join the squad in Adelaide ahead of the second ODI.

Matthew Kuhnemann included in Australia’s squad for the first ODI against India

Australia are optimistic that Josh Inglis will regain fitness in time for the third ODI in Sydney. The wicketkeeper-batter is still recovering from a calf injury sustained during a running session in Perth, which also ruled him out of the New Zealand tour.

As for Adam Zampa, the Australian camp is confident that the leg-spinner will return for the final two matches. Adam Zampa missed the opening game as his wife, Harriet, is nearing the end of her pregnancy.

In his absence, Matthew Kuhnemann has been drafted into the squad for the first ODI. If selected to play in Perth, it will mark Kuhnemann’s first ODI appearance in three years.

Reports further suggest that Cameron Green will feature only in the first two matches before missing the Sydney fixture to participate in a Sheffield Shield game in Perth starting October 28. Green is not expected to bowl in the ODI series, as he plans to build up his bowling workload gradually in domestic cricket ahead of the 2025–26 Ashes.

The three-match ODI series between Australia and India begins on October 19, with the remaining games scheduled for October 23 in Adelaide and October 25 in Sydney.
