CSK Responds to Retention Rumours with a Clever Social Media Move

The Indian Premier League (IPL) mini-auction, ahead of the 2026 edition, is scheduled to take place in December this year. As the marquee event on the cricket calendar approaches, fans are eagerly awaiting to see what each franchise does when it comes to releasing and retaining players. CSK, the five-time champions, are under the spotlight, having finished at the bottom of the points table for the first time in their history this year.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side is planning to release Sam Curran, Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tripathi, and Devon Conway. Amid growing chatter on social media, CSK finally decided to speak up regarding the retention rumours. One of the most popular IPL franchises updated its bio on X (formerly Twitter) in response to the speculation.
The franchise’s new bio reads, “Nothing’s official till you see it here.” Before updating their bio, CSK posted a cheeky message that said, “Don’t worry, we’ve updated the bio.”

The 2025 season proved to be a nightmare for the five-time champions, who managed to win only 4 out of their 14 matches. Their campaign took a major hit when captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out midway through the tournament due to a hairline fracture in his elbow. Veteran MS Dhoni took over the leadership duties for the remainder of the season, but even his experience couldn’t turn things around.
Throughout the campaign, Dhoni’s batting position became a major talking point, especially after the iconic wicketkeeper-batter walked in at No.9 on two separate occasions — a move that left fans and analysts puzzled.
More details about the IPL 2026 auction

According to Cricbuzz, the IPL 2026 mini-auction is scheduled to take place between December 13 and 15 in India. All ten franchises must submit their final list of retained players by November 15, 2025.
In a major development, Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson is expected to enter the auction pool unless the franchise manages a last-minute trade. Several other notable players, including T. Natarajan, Mitchell Starc, Akash Deep, Mayank Yadav, and David Miller, may also find themselves back in the pool as their respective teams consider releasing them.
Adding to the intrigue, all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer — who was bought for a staggering INR 23.75 crore by the 2024 champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) — could also be up for grabs this time. Meanwhile, Australian star Cameron Green is expected to be one of the most sought-after names at the mini-auction, with multiple franchises reportedly showing strong interest in signing him.
