Asia Cup 2025: Arshdeep Singh Becomes First Indian Bowler to Reach 100 T20I Wickets

T20I Wickets: Arshdeep Singh made headlines during India’s clash against Oman in the Asia Cup 2025.

The Indian cricket team faced Oman in their final group-stage match of the ongoing Asia Cup on Friday, 19th September, at Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Stadium. The encounter proved to be India’s toughest challenge in the tournament so far.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, India posted a total of 188/8. Opener Shubman Gill struggled, departing for just five runs, but Abhishek Sharma struck a quickfire 38 off 15 balls. Sanju Samson, batting at number three, played a commanding innings of 56. Contributions from Axar Patel (26) and Tilak Varma (29) proved vital as India built a competitive total. For Oman, Shah Faisal, Jiten Ramanandi, and Aamir Kaleem claimed two wickets each.

Chasing 189, Oman got off to a strong start. Openers Jatinder Singh and Aamir Kaleem shared a 56-run partnership. After Jatinder fell for 32, Kaleem (64) combined with Hammad Mirza, who scored a half-century, for a 93-run stand, putting India under pressure. At one point, an upset seemed possible in Oman’s first-ever T20I meeting with India.

However, India’s bowlers, led by Arshdeep Singh, held their nerve and defended the total, securing a 21-run victory for the Men in Blue.

India deployed eight bowlers in the match, but only four managed to take wickets. Among them was Arshdeep Singh, making his first appearance of the ongoing tournament. He had to wait until the final over to claim his first wicket of the game, which also marked a major milestone—his 100th T20I wicket.

Arshdeep achieved the feat by dismissing Oman’s wicket-keeper batter Vinayak Shukla for 1, becoming the first Indian to reach 100 wickets in T20I cricket.
