Mitchell Owen sidelined with concussion as Australia announce three changes to ODI squad for South Africa series

Mitchell Owen: Australia have been forced into three changes for their upcoming ODI series against South Africa after Matt Short, Lance Morris, and Mitchell Owen were ruled out due to injuries.

The Proteas are currently on a white-ball tour of Australia, featuring three T20Is and three ODIs. Two T20I matches have already been played. Mitchell Owen, who was set to make his ODI debut, suffered a concussion after being struck on the helmet by Kagiso Rabada in the second T20I. Under Cricket Australia’s concussion protocols, he must rest for at least 12 days, ruling him out of the final T20I and the ODI series.

Short is yet to recover from a side injury sustained during training on the West Indies tour, while Morris has been sidelined with back soreness and will return to Perth for further assessment.

Aaron Hardie and Matthew Kuhnemann, already in the T20I squad, have been added to the ODI team, along with Cooper Connolly. Mitchell Owen, Wicketkeeper Josh Inglis, who missed the second T20I due to illness, will remain with the squad.

Cricket Australia has confirmed an updated 15-member squad for the upcoming ODIs against South Africa, with Mitchell Marsh set to lead the side. The squad includes Xavier Bartlett, Alex Carey, Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Matthew Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne, and Adam Zampa.

Before the ODI leg, the third and final T20I will be contested on Saturday, August 16, at Cazaly’s Stadium in Cairns. Mitchell Owen, The ODI series is scheduled for August 19, 22, and 24, with the opener at Cazaly’s Stadium and the remaining two matches at Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay.
