Shocking Revelation! Rohit Sharma Led India to ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Victory Despite Hamstring Injury, Says Former Selector

Rohit Sharma officially announced his retirement from Test cricket in May 2025, marking the end of a remarkable red-ball career. Former Indian selector Jatin Paranjape has since revealed that the veteran opener battled a hamstring injury during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which may have influenced his decision.

Despite the injury, Rohit Sharma led India to glory in the tournament, securing the title with a win over New Zealand in the final. This triumph marked his second ICC trophy as captain in less than a year — the first being the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, where India beat South Africa in the final.

Having already retired from T20Is after that World Cup win, Rohit now plays only in the ODI format. He continues to serve as India’s ODI captain and is set to lead the team in the upcoming series against Australia in October.

In an interview with the Times of India, former Indian selector Jatin Paranjape revealed that Rohit Sharma had been grappling with a hamstring injury for the past four to five months.

“He could have continued playing a bit longer—maybe for another couple of years,” Paranjape said. “Rohit Sharma was dealing with a hamstring issue and didn’t get much rest. Despite that, he was batting brilliantly. Even when he scored just 10, 15, or 20, that signature hook shot of his stood out. Truly amazing.”

Rohit Sharma injury woes extended into the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season as well. He featured for the Mumbai Indians (MI) mainly as an Impact Player, especially in the early stages of the tournament. Despite a slow start, he eventually found form and delivered a solid performance.
