Pooran was one of West Indies’ most impactful white-ball players. Known for his aggressive batting style and impressive strike rate, he never played a Test match but made his mark in limited-overs formats with 61 One Day Internationals and 106 T20 Internationals.

In ODIs, the 29-year-old scored 1,983 runs in 58 innings at an average of 39.66, including 11 half-centuries and 3 centuries. In T20Is, he amassed 2,275 runs in 97 innings, with 13 fifties, at a strike rate of 136.40 and an average of 26.15. Pooran retires as the most-capped T20I player and the highest run-scorer for the West Indies in the format.

Left-handed batter Nicholas Pooran took to Instagram to announce his retirement from international cricket. In an emotional post, he shared his decision with fans and expressed gratitude for their unwavering support over the years. He admitted that making this choice was not easy.

“After much thought and reflection, I’ve decided to announce my retirement from international cricket. This game we love has given me—and continues to give—so much: joy, purpose, unforgettable memories, and the honor of representing the people of the West Indies.”

Cricket West Indies (CWI) officially bid farewell to Nicholas Pooran in a statement, calling him a world-class player and a true game changer.

“Nicholas Pooran officially informed the leadership of his decision to retire from international cricket, marking the end of a significant chapter in his career,” the statement said.

The statement further added, “A world-class player and a game changer, Nicholas leaves the international stage as the most capped West Indian in T20 Internationals with 106 matches and also the highest run-scorer in T20Is with 2,275 runs. His on-field performances and leadership within the team have left a lasting legacy in West Indies cricket.”

Recently, Pooran participated in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), where he played for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Although LSG failed to make the playoffs, Pooran was a standout performer, scoring 524 runs in 14 matches. He was the team’s second-highest run-scorer and maintained a phenomenal strike rate of 196.25, registering five half-centuries during the season.
