All-Round Performances By Sutherland And Lanning Lead DC To A Tense Victory

Sutherland: Delhi Capitals won an exciting match against UP Warriorz by seven wickets, securing their second win of the season. Just like their first victory against Mumbai Indians, this game was also a close chase that went to the last over. Annabel Sutherland (41*) and Marizanne Kapp (29*) guided Delhi to victory after captain Meg Lanning (69) set the stage with a strong performance. However, Delhi could have lost if UP Warriorz had fielded better and held onto some easy catches.

UP Warriorz started well, with Kiran Navgire scoring a quick 50 off 24 balls. She and her opening partner Vrinda Dinesh (16) put up a 66-run partnership before Sutherland broke it by dismissing both batters. UP Warriorz then lost two more quick wickets, falling to 82/4. Shweta Sehrawat (37) and Grace Harris tried to rebuild, but it was Chinelle Henry (33*), playing her first WPL game, who gave UP Warriorz a strong finish with a quick 33 runs. This helped them reach a total of 166/7.

In response, Delhi started their chase strongly with Shafali Verma and Lanning. Verma scored 26 off 16 balls before getting out, and Jemimah Rodrigues fell soon after. Lanning, however, played a brilliant innings, scoring 69 and forming a 49-run partnership with Sutherland. After Lanning was dismissed, Sutherland and Kapp took Delhi close to the target. Despite some nervous moments and dropped catches by UP Warriorz, Delhi managed to win with one ball to spare, thanks to Sutherland hitting two boundaries in the final over.

UP Warriorz missed chances in the field, including a dropped catch and a fumble that cost them the game. Delhi, on the other hand, bounced back well after their previous loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore. UP Warriorz are still searching for their first win of the season.
