On Sunday, February 16, the BCCI unveiled the complete schedule for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The highly anticipated season is set to kick off on March 22, with defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) facing Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Kolkata.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru experienced a rollercoaster campaign in IPL 2024. While they displayed remarkable determination and fighting spirit to secure a spot in the playoffs, their long-standing wait for an IPL trophy extended for yet another year. The franchise had moments of brilliance throughout the season but fell short when it mattered the most.
As they prepare for IPL 2025, RCB has made a significant change in leadership. Ahead of the mega auction, the franchise decided to release former captain Faf du Plessis, marking the end of an era. Under his leadership, RCB showed promise but couldn’t break their title drought. Looking toward the future, the team management has now placed its trust in Rajat Patidar, appointing him as the new captain for the upcoming season.
Patidar, known for his composed batting and aggressive stroke play, will have the responsibility of leading a side eager to claim its first-ever IPL trophy. With a fresh approach and new leadership, RCB will aim to turn their fortunes around in IPL 2025. The franchise will hope that this change in captaincy brings the much-needed spark to finally end their championship drought and bring glory to their passionate fanbase.
As in the previous season, RCB will play seven matches at their home ground, M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Interestingly, they will feature in four of their last six league-stage games in front of their home crowd.
During the season, RCB will face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DC), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Punjab Kings (PBKS) twice. Meanwhile, they will take on Gujarat Titans (GT), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and Mumbai Indians (MI) once.
