India played their inaugural Test match at Adelaide in 1948, and since then, the Adelaide Oval has become one of Australia’s most iconic cricket venues. The ground earned its name, “Oval,” due to its distinctive oval shape, featuring long straight boundaries of over 80 meters and shorter side boundaries.
Adelaide Oval’s rich cricketing history includes hosting the first-ever day-night Test match in 2015 between Australia and New Zealand. The venue has proven to be a fortress for Australia in day-night encounters. However, India’s record at this ground has been far from impressive in Test cricket. With only two wins, three draws, and seven losses in 13 matches, India’s performance here has been a struggle. Notably, India’s lowest-ever Test total of 36 runs came at this ground in 2020. 1. 12 December 2003
After conceding 556 runs in the first innings, Dravid’s exceptional double century helped India post 523 runs in response. In Australia’s second innings, Agarkar led the charge with the ball, taking six wickets and limiting the hosts to just 196.
Though India faced a few challenges, they successfully chased down the target of 230, with Dravid remaining unbeaten on 72. His performance earned him the well-deserved Man of the Match award.
2. 6 December 2008
Cheteshwar Pujara played a pivotal role in India’s batting, scoring 123 and 71 in the match. Meanwhile, the bowling attack, led by Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and R. Ashwin, was dominant, with the trio collectively taking 17 wickets. India clinched the victory on the final day, triumphing by a narrow margin of 31 runs.
