The IPL 2025 Mega Auction has reshaped team line-ups, with all 10 franchises assembling star-studded squads. From high-profile buys to strategic picks, teams have bolstered their strengths for the upcoming season. Discover the finalized squads, featuring retained icons and fresh talents, as they gear up for an exciting edition of cricket’s biggest T20 league.
The IPL 2025 is set to kick off on March 14
The 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction, hosted over two days in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, concluded on November 25. This highly anticipated event witnessed intense bidding battles among all ten franchises as they sought to assemble formidable squads for the upcoming seasons.
Indian players stole the spotlight, with Rishabh Pant creating history as the most expensive player in IPL history. The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured him for a record-breaking INR 27 crores.
The Punjab Kings (PBKS), armed with the largest purse of INR 110.50 crores, made some headline-grabbing purchases. They invested heavily in Indian talent, acquiring Shreyas Iyer for INR 26.75 crores, Arshdeep Singh for INR 18 crores, and Yuzvendra Chahal for INR 18 crores.
Ahead of the auction, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) required all teams to finalize and submit their list of retained players by October 31. Each franchise could retain up to six players, including a maximum of five capped and two uncapped Indian players, either through direct retention or by using the Right to Match (RTM) card during the auction.
Adding to the excitement was the return of the RTM card, a feature reintroduced after its last appearance in the 2018 mega auction. While the 2018 rule allowed teams to match the highest bid for a player who was previously in their squad, the 2025 auction added a twist. Franchises placing the original bid could raise their offer even after an RTM card had been used, increasing the competitiveness of the bidding process.
With new dynamics in play and a deep pool of talent available, each franchise strategically approached the auction to build their squads. This article delves into how the ten teams have shaped their rosters following the event.
