There are some Leanest cricketers players who despite winning innumerable cricket matches, lost to the weighing scales. These are considered some of the thinnest players to have played the game.
5. Mushtaq Ali
Mushtaq Ali is not a familiar name in the Indian cricketing circles. However, he is one of the oldest living Indian cricketers in the world at the moment. However, he is also one of the all-time leanest cricketers to have played the game. He looked very slim and a slim-fit Mushtaq Ali went on to score India’s first hundred on foreign soil (overseas).
His batting was elegant but he played just 11 Test matches for India. One of the reasons was World War II which saw absolutely no cricket being played. However, his first-class career spanned up to over 30 years and he featured in a total of 226 first-class games.
4. Greg Chappell
Greg Chappell may be remembered for his face-off against Sourav Ganguly or the torrid time as India’s coach. However, it is often forgotten that he is one of the legends of the game and contributed immensely to Australian cricket. He averaged almost 54 in Test matches and about 40 in the ODI format of the game.
Also, it is a little-known fact that Greg Chappell was one of the leanest figures in world cricket. He is one of those who would be ideal for the slim-fit billing. Chappell was a fit character who never backed down from a challenge. The South Australian was also one of Australia’s best batsmen in the team and always led the charge with the bat. He made 27 international hundreds, including the one in his first and last Test match.
3. Mohammad Azharuddin
It may come as a surprise but Mohammad Azharuddin was one of the leanest figures to have featured in the game during his time. In fact, when he started off, he must have been the slimmest Indian player at that time. He may have also been one of the fittest players in the team during that era.
However, despite having a lean body, Azharuddin had fast hands. There were very few batsmen who could manoeuvre the ball as well as he could. His wrist-work was impeccable. He played 99 Test matches and 334 ODIs and accumulated over 15,000 runs in international cricket.
However, his career was cut short by a spot-fixing scandal and was banned for life. The ban was lifted in 2012 by the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
2. Sikandar Bakht
Former Pakistan fast bowler Sikandar Bakht played just 26 Tests and 27 ODIs for the Men in Green taking, 67 and 33 wickets respectively. He soon was forgotten in the history books but later went on to become a member of the support staff for the Pakistan national team. Currently, he works as an analyst for a number of TV channels in Pakistan.
Many however remember him for his slim and slender body. To date, many consider Bakht to be one of the thinnest cricketers to have played the game.
1. Yuzvendra Chahal
The Indian spinner is currently the best at his craft. The right-arm leg-spinner has won India innumerable games with his bowling masterclass. When it comes to tipping the scales though, Chahal would certainly come last in the team.
With a slender, thin body, the Haryana-born player is one of the thinnest cricketers to have played the game. Despite his appearance though, Chahal has given great examples of his stamina throughout his cricketing career. He is one of the hardest working players in his team and often gives his 100%.
