Cricket Australia has announced the dates for the 2025-26 Ashes series in Australia. The Gabba will host the second Test, which will be a day-night match, while the third Test will be held in Adelaide as a day game under a new agreement that allows a pre-Christmas Test for the next seven years.
The series will start in Perth with the first Test from November 21-25. This will be followed by the second Test in Brisbane from December 4-8. The third Test in Adelaide is scheduled for December 17-21. The traditional Boxing Day Test will take place at the MCG on December 26, and Sydney will host the fifth Test from January 4-8.
Changes to the Ashes schedule were expected after Cricket Australia announced new contracts with state governments. Adelaide has been the main venue for day-night Tests since 2015 and has hosted two previous Ashes day-night Tests. The South Australian government and Cricket Australia wanted to give Adelaide a prominent holiday slot because of its popularity.
The Gabba has hosted day-night Tests before, but it will not be the opening venue for the Ashes for the first time since the 1982-83 series. Concerns remain about the Gabba’s future due to redevelopment plans for the 2032 Olympics.
